Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT)
- Written by Sherri Eubank, MA, LPC
Do you find yourself continuing to repeat negative patterns over and over? It could be negative thoughts in your head. You again and again pick out the wrong type of person for friendship or dating. You might be disappointed in yourself and never seem to measure up to your expectations. Maybe you’re miserable at work but stay there because you just can’t seem to get motivated to leave. Could be that your grief has lasted longer than it should? You’re getting tired of your anxiety and want it to go away. Looking for something a little different in counseling that can change your patterns? Come try Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT). It’s a combination of attachment theory and visual brain stimulation.
Developed by Dr. Steven Vazquez, LPC-S, LMFT, he says that attachment theory revolves around bonding during our early years of life. It gives each of us a pattern of regulating our emotions. If these patterns cause problems, they can be changed with the use of ETT so that there can be less emotional distress.
The visual brain stimulation helps identify memories and the beliefs associated with them. It offers the client the ability to change once they are recognized. There are several different methods of ETT that can be used. One form of stimulation uses a wall chart with horizontal bands of colors. It starts with purple at the top, then indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red at the bottom. The colors are associated with stimulating specific areas of the brain that can lead to change.
