A Brief Introduction
- Written by Bridging Harts Staff
Hello readers! My name is Robby and I’m the newest LPC Associate of the Bridging Harts team.
The path that brought me to Bridging Harts has been a bit of an unconventional one. I graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2010 where I earned my Bachelors of Arts in Anthropology. Even though I wasn’t too sure what to do with that at the time, studying human history and its wide variety of cultures way back then has now strengthened my view of counseling on a multicultural level. It also doesn’t hurt that one of the pioneers of Narrative Therapy, David Epston, also earned his Bachelors in Anthropology so I guess I’m in good company!
For the next seven years I worked in operations and transportation in the DFW area. One day, I was riding the DART heading towards downtown Dallas when I glanced outside my window and saw an ad for a university geared towards working adults. I did my research and found out that its counseling program was highly respected and started my coursework there in 2017. I graduated from Amberton University last November where I earned my Masters of Arts in Professional Counseling.
I’m also a huge nerd! In my free time I enjoy watching my favorite TV shows and movies. Star Wars is a favorite of mine as George Lucas was heavily influenced by the teachings of Joseph Campbell, a comparative religions professor who taught at Sarah Lawrence College. Reading fiction (ex. A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin) and nonfiction (ex. The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell) is another pastime I enjoy tapping into. Because I’ve loved the fantasy genre all my life, I’ve recently started playing Dungeons and Dragons and am now interested in bringing that activity to a therapeutic group setting as that has picked up steam in recent years for its use of improving social skills, problem-solving skills and self-esteem.
As your therapist, I will implement a person-centered environment for you by making it a priority to create a safe space for you to feel heard and understood. Because unique life experiences vary greatly, I believe in the importance of being eclectic by pulling from a wide range of interventions in order to customize the best possible treatment approach for you. I also encourage clients to be engaged in the therapeutic process to discover inner resources already present so your strengths can continue to play an integral role in your journey towards personal growth. Please feel free to reach out if this sounds like the therapeutic fit you've been seeking and I look forward to possibly working with you in the future!
