Aha! Parenting:  A review of my favorite online parenting resource

“Help!  How do I handle this with my child?”

If you’ve ever had a conversation about teaching or parenting with me, you’ve probably heard me mention Ahaparenting.com.  It’s my go-to resource for childcare givers who want to model respectful, emotionally supportive communication to kids.  The site supports families to express empathy, respect, and to create connection while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

“Aha! Parenting” founding editor Laura Markham, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist trained at Columbia University.  She is a prolific writer and speaker, most well known for her book “Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids:  How to Stop Yelling and Start Connecting.”  Dr. Markham’s model for parenting is based on regulating our emotions as parents/caregivers, connecting with your child, and coaching your child (instead of controlling).

The web site is extensive, and gives information for parenting children of any age – from pregnancy to late teens.  Use the search engine to type in a topic of your choice, and you’ll find articles, blog posts, Q&A, and videos available to answer your questions.  You can even join the “Aha! Parenting” Facebook group to post your own questions and brainstorm answers with like-minded parents and group administrators.

Ahaparenting.com is a great resource for your family, or your classroom.  Enjoy!
